Jennifer Tilly was conceived in Los Angeles on 16 September 1958 in very poor circumstances. Her mother was a schoolteacher and an unsuccessful actor, while her father sold automobiles. Jennifer was the youngest child from her extended family. She often accompanied her mother, who worked as a teacher at school, to theater performances. She found her very impressive. After Jennifer was five years old she divorced her parents. Jennifer lived the majority of her childhood at British Columbia after her mom relocated there with the other four children. Jennifer did not appear to be a scholarly sort, despite the fact that she was quite artistic as a child. In Canada, she was the victim of bullying often. She began to lose interest in theater throughout her time in high school. Her mother encouraged her to take on different roles in plays.
